Mount Pleasant, Iowa - October 8, 2017 - The men's soccer team took on Fontbonne University in today's soccer action.  The Tigers picked up their first conference win against Spalding on Thursday, and were hoping to pick up another one today.  Iowa Wesleyan was unable to come back from two first half goals, and they suffered a 3-1 loss to the Griffins.

In the first half of play, Fontbonne had the advantage in shots over the Tigers.  The Griffins took seven shots in the half, including five shots on goal.  Iowa Wesleyan's defense gave up two goals to the Griffins,  IW was unable to find the back of the net in the first half, and would trail 0-2 at the break.

The Tigers were able to get a goal back early in the second half.  Fabian Arvizu scored the first goal for Iowa Wesleyan, and Blas Villaseca (FR/Spain) earned the assist on the play.  Fontbonne added another goal just under fifty minutes into play, extending their lead to 3-1.  Elijah Perez (SO/Tulare, CA) came up with a big save on a penalty kick to keep the Tigers within two goals.

Although the Tigers were able to get more shots off  than Fontbonne in the second half, Iowa Wesleyan would fail to add another goal.  They would drop their first match in SLIAC play, suffering a 3-1 loss to the Griffins.

Fabian Arvizu had a team high five shots, including four on goal in the loss.  Elijah Perez was in the net for the Tigers, and he ended the match with six saves.
