Mount Pleasant, Iowa - October 4, 2017 - The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team hosted Eureka College in a SLIAC matchup this evening.  After dropping two quick sets to the Red Devils, the Tigers bounced back to take the next two sets.  The final set was all Eureka, and IW dropped the match 2-3.

Eureka jumped out to a quick start on the night.  Iowa Wesleyan struggled to stop their offensive attack, giving up ten kills in the first set and seventeen kills in the second set.  The Tigers put down seven kills in the opening set but nine attack errors were too much to overcome.  In the second set, IW finished with eight kills.  IW dropped both the first and second set by scores of 25-13.

The third and fourth set belonged to the Tigers.  Iowa Wesleyan finished both sets with ten kills, and in the fourth set, they limited their errors to four.  The Red Devils, however, were plagued with errors, committing eight attack errors in third set, and nine attack errors in the fourth set. IW won the third set 25-19 and took the fourth set 25-21.

The deciding match did not go in favor of the Tigers.  Eureka jumped out to an early lead, and IW was unable to get themselves out of the hole.  The Red Devils had an 8-2 advantage at the side change, and the Tigers found themselves facing an 11-2 deficit before they were able to stop the run.  Iowa Wesleyan lost the final set 15-5, dropping the match by a score of 2-3.

Lida Landre (JR/Loomis, CA) recorded a team high nine kills, while Sydney Ellsworth (JR/Hill AFB, UT) was close behind with seven kills on the night.   Jordan Miller (JR/High Ridge, MO) and Taylor Payne (SO/Little Rock, AR) each added six kills for the Tigers.  Ariel Smale (JR/Guntersville, AL) recorded twenty-six assists and fifteen digs in the loss.  Jenna Murphy (FR/Pella, IA) led the team with eighteen digs against the Eureka attack.

Iowa Wesleyan will be at home this weekend.  Spalding University, Fontbonne University, and Blackburn College will visit Ruble Arena as the Tigers host a SLIAC quad. Iowa Wesleyan will take on Spalding at 11 am and Fontbonne at 1 pm.
