Mount Pleasant, Iowa - October 1, 2017 - The Iowa Wesleyan men's soccer team played their first conference game of the season yesterday in St. Louis, Missouri. The Tigers took on Webster University in the SLIAC game of the week. Both teams entered the match with a record of 4-4-1, the only teams with records above .500 on the season.  After two overtime periods, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Iowa Wesleyan gave up an early goal to the Gorloks in the opening period of the match.  Webster took a 1-0 advantage just over twelve minutes into play. Although the Tigers were able to outshoot the Gorloks in the first half, the early goal would be the only one of the period.

The Tigers would even the score at 1-1 shortly into the second period.  Alvaro Sebastian (FR/Madrid, Spain) netted the equalizer at the 49:36 minute mark with an unassisted goal for IW. They would take the lead over the Gorloks when David Hualca (SO/Guayaquil, Ecuador) set up Tevin Yen (JR/Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) for his first goal of the season, giving Iowa Wesleyan a 2-1 advantage.  Webster did not trail long, as they tied the match up at 2-2 just over a minute later. Both teams were unable to capitalize on shots during the remainder of the second period, and overtime would be forced.

In the first overtime period, both Webster and Iowa Wesleyan took two shots.  Trevor Haasis (SO/Williamsburg, IA) recorded two saves in the first overtime, and time would run out before either team could score.  The second overtime was similar to the first, with both teams taking three shots in the period. Blas Villaseca (FR/Spain) took the final shot of the game, but his shot was wide of the target.  The match would end in a 2-2 draw, living up to the game of the week hype.

Blas Villaseca led the Tigers with eight shots in the match, while Alvaro Sebastian added five shots, including two shots on goal.  Tevin Yen and Pablo Garcia (FR/Spain) each finished the match with two shots.  Sebastian's goal was his second of the season, and Yen's goal was his first of the year. Trevor Haasis earned his second tie of the season in the goal for IW.
