St. Louis, Missouri - September 6, 2017 - Iowa Wesleyan University's women's volleyball team took on Webster University in tonight's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Tigers entered the match still looking for their first win of the season. IW suffered a 0-3 loss to the Gorloks, falling 21-25, 14-25, and 23-25 in straight sets
The Tigers opened the first set on a 3-0 run, but Webster quickly erased the deficit. Neither team was able to gain much of an advantage, and the first set saw the score tied up nine different times. Iowa Wesleyan was outhit 16-11 in kills at the end of the first set.
Webster kept the Tiger offense in check in the second set of the night. IW fell behind early and was unable to take the lead against the Gorloks. The Tigers committed eight attack errors while only converting seven kills in the set.
The third set of the night was another back and forth set between the Tigers and Gorloks. The start of the set saw the lead change several times before Webster took a three point advantage. The Tigers trailed by five at one point before mounting a comeback. Iowa Wesleyan tied the set up at 15-15 on a kill by Lida Landre (JR/Loomis, CA). The score was tied at 17 when the Gorloks took the lead and would not trail the remainder of the set. IW suffered a 23-25 defeat to drop the third and final set of the night.
Cassandra Schwamborn (JR/Montebello, CA) and Lida Landre each had a team high nine kills for Iowa Wesleyan. Sydney Ellsworth (JR/Hill AFB, UT) finished with three kills on the night. Jordan Miller (JR/High Ridge, MO) and Addison Buscher (FR/St. Louis, MO) each added two kills in the loss. Ariel Smale (JR/Guntersville, AL) had a team high 16 digs and 25 assists for the Tigers, while Jenna Murphy (FR/Pella, IA) added 15 digs.
Iowa Wesleyan will travel to Jacksonville, Illinois this Saturday. They will take on Greenville University at 1 pm and MacMurray College at 3 pm.
