Burlington, IA - Iowa Wesleyan University held the third annual Tiger Club Golf Outing at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa Wednesday, June 21. Over a hundred participants came out for this year's event to help support Tiger Athletics and student-athletes at Iowa Wesleyan University.
"This is a great event that not only benefits our student-athletes, but also creates excitement around our Tiger Athletic programs. We want to thank Greg Mason at Spirit Hollow for allowing us to host this event at their facility for the third consecutive year," said Interim Athletic Director, Derek Zander.
The day included 18 holes of golf on Iowa's second ranked public course. Various contests were held at holes throughout the course, including the longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin.
"We are extremely grateful to all of our sponsors who participated in this year's event. I would like to thank our two title sponsors, Matt Lafrenz - Country Financial and Dave George - Two Rivers Bank and Trust. Without the support of these two individuals, our individual hole sponsors, and the community of Mount Pleasant, this event would not be possible," said Zander.
The outing ended with dinner and a variety of raffles prizes. Prior to the dinner, student-athletes spoke on their experiences as a member of Tiger Athletics and Iowa Wesleyan.
Travis Gile, a member of the baseball team and president of the SLIAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee, said "The coaches care about your success in the next forty years, not just the next four years. They always push you to do your best and genuinely care about you. I wouldn't trade my experience for anything."
Darby Massner, a two year starter for the women's basketball team and a member of the women's golf team had the following to say about her experience at IW. "The smallness of campus and the friendliness of everyone is something I have really enjoyed. The memories and relationships I have made, whether they have been with coaches and teammates or professors and other classmates, will stay with me forever."
The Tiger Club is designed to help build a community of alumni, friends, and supporters of Iowa Wesleyan University and give them the opportunity to assist in enhancing the continued growth, success, and tradition of Tiger Athletics through financial contributions.
