Mount Pleasant, IA - May 4, 2017 - Iowa Wesleyan University has announced the recipient of the Lori Williams Wright '64 Senior Women's Basketball Player Award. The award was created in 2012 and is given annually to a senior women's basketball player that exhibits athletic ability, leadership skills, and academic excellence.
Jaimie Hurd (SR/Sterling, IL) was presented the award this afternoon by Acting Athletic Director Derek Zander, President Steven E. Titus, Chairman of the Board Don Wiley, and Head Women's Basketball Coach Jack Bruns. Hurd was a two year member of the women's basketball team. She was also the captain of the team this year. She received SLIAC Academic All-Conference and USCAA National All-Academic honors. Hurd also was named to the SLIAC All-Defensive Team this season.
"Jaimie is great example of what this award represents. She has been an excellent student during her time at Iowa Wesleyan, and was a key player for the Tigers the last two years," said Acting Athletic Director Derek Zander.
Hurd, a biology major with a 3.96 grade point average, is from Sterling, Illinois. She will attend pharmacy school at the University of Illinois-Chicago Rockford campus after graduation.
Lori Williams Wright is a 1964 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan University and was a standout player on the women's basketball team. She was an All-American and helped lead the Tigers to four National Tournament appearances. Wright was inducted into the Iowa Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2004. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association inducted Wright into their Hall of Fame in 1968.
