Grinnell, Iowa – The Iowa Wesleyan Softball team played their second double header in as many days.  The Tigers faced off against Grinnell College in a non-conference match up before having the weekend off.  Iowa Wesleyan dropped both games of the double header, losing the first game 5-1 and falling 4-0 in the second game of the day.

Samantha McIlwain (JR/Boone, IA) was the starting pitcher for the Tigers in the opening game of the afternoon.  She pitched six innings and finished the game with three earned runs for IW.  Grinnell gained an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-0 lead over Iowa Wesleyan.

The Tigers would get a run back in the top of the fourth inning.  IW recorded two hits and took advantage of an error by the Pioneers.  With one out, Sydnee Stalker (SO/Ottawa, IL) reached on an error, and Julie Dodd (SO/Rock Falls, IL) followed with a single to right field.  Sheridan Gealow (JR/Huxley, IA) hit an RBI single up the middle, bringing home Stalker for IW's first and only run of the game.

The defenses for both teams would come up with stops in the next three innings, and the Pioneers handed the Tigers a 5-1 loss.  IW finished the game with six hits, but were unable to score more than the one run.

The second game of the day featured Julie Dodd in the circle.  Dodd went six innings, striking out two and only giving up one earned run.  The Iowa Wesleyan bats struggled to get going in the final game against Grinnell.  IW recorded just three hits in the game.

Julie Dodd had the first hit of the game in the fifth inning. She singled to third base, but the inning would end in a double play for the Tigers.  They would get another hit in the sixth inning.  Sheridan Gealow singled up the middle, but again IW would come up empty.

Iowa Wesleyan came up to bat in the top of the seventh looking to start a rally.  Caitlin O'Neill (SR/Princeton, IA) led the inning off with a single. The next three batters for the Tigers failed to reach base, and Grinnell completed the sweep with a 4-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan.

The Tigers overall record is now 9-15.  They will have almost a week off, with their next game on April 19.  Iowa Wesleyan will host Westminster College at 1 pm.
