Mount Pleasant, Iowa – The Tigers hosted a SLIAC double header against Greenville College yesterday afternoon.  Iowa Wesleyan was looking to build from the momentum of two wins this past Sunday. They were able to pick up a win 5-4 in the first game of the day after scoring on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, but dropped the second game of the day by a score of 7-2 to the Panthers.

Iowa Wesleyan trailed early in the opening game of the double header. Greenville plated two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead over IW.  The lead did not last long, however, as the Tigers would go in front 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Caitlin O'Neill (SR/Princeton, IA) hit a leadoff single and Kassie Vazquez (SR/Ainsworth, IA) beat out a bunt to give IW runners on first and second.  Jena Miller (JR/Monmouth, IL) singled up the middle to bring in the first run of the inning.  Sydnee Stalker (SO/Ottawa, IL) came to the plate and doubled to left field to drive in Vazquez.  The final run of the inning came when Jena Miller crossed the plate after Julie Dodd (SO/Rock Falls, IL) grounded out to second base.

The Panthers regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning.  They scored two runs off of two hits to take a 4-3 lead.  Iowa Wesleyan was able to tie the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning after recording a run off of two hits.  McKenzie Copher (SO/Worth, IL) singled through the left side and would score off of a single by Julie Dodd.

Both teams failed to score for three innings, which brought Greenville to the plate in the top of the ninth inning.  The Tiger defense would shut down the Panthers and bring up their offense in the bottom of the inning. After a sacrifice bunt, the Tigers had a runner on third base. The Panthers intentionally walked Caitlin O'Neill, and Kassie Vazquez advanced the runner with a sacrifice bunt.  Jamee Houchins (FR/Marissa, IL) would score the winning run on a wild pitch by the Panthers.  IW took game one by a final score of 5-4.

Samantha McIlwain (JR/Boone, IA) improved to 5-5 on the season and finished the game with 10 strikeouts.  Caitlin O'Neill led the Tiger offense by going 4-4 at the plate in the win.

In the second game of the day, Iowa Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom of the first inning.  After a scoreless second inning, the Panthers recorded five hits and plated four runs to go in front 4-1.  They would add two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead over the Tigers.

In the top of the sixth, Greenville recorded one hit and took advantage of an error by IW to add a run to their lead.  Iowa Wesleyan trailed 7-1 as they came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth.  The Tigers would get a run in the inning when Ashley Machholz (FR/Mediapolis, IA) singled to right field to bring home Skyler Rodgers (SR/St. Louis, MO).

The seventh inning was scoreless for both teams, and Greenville held on to win 7-2 over the Tigers.  Julie Dodd earned the loss and is now 4-8 overall this season. Sheridan Gealow (JR/Huxley, IA) went 2-3 at the plate, and Sydnee Stalker was 2-4 at the dish in the loss. Iowa Wesleyan's overall record is now 9-13.
