Iowa Wesleyan University hosted the Eagles of Robert Morris University-Springfield yesterday afternoon in a non-conference double header.  The Tigers won both games, winning the first game 7-6 on a walk off and taking the second game 7-2.

Iowa Wesleyan fell behind early in the first game of the day. Samantha McIlwain (JR/Boone, IA) struggled to find her rhythm in the circle, walking the first two batters of the game.  IW gave up three runs in the opening inning, but they were able to get one run back in the bottom half.  RMU-Springfield walked two batters, and the Tigers took advantage. Julie Dodd (SO/Rock Falls, IL) singled to bring home Caitlin O'Neill (SR/Princeton, IA) for IW's first run of the game.

McIlwain settled in during the second inning and was able to get out of the inning after facing three batters.  Iowa Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom half of the second, scoring three runs on four hits and an error.  Kassie Vazquez (SR/Ainsworth, IA) knocked in the first two runs of the inning with a bases clearing triple, and Jena Miller (JR/Monmouth, IL) singled through the left side to bring in the final run of the inning for the Tigers.  IW took a 4-3 lead heading into the third.

The Tigers would extend their lead in the bottom of the third, adding two runs on three hits to take a 6-3 lead over the Eagles. RMU-Springfield gained a run back, cutting the Tiger lead to 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning and would take the lead in the top of the sixth.

Iowa Wesleyan came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh.  Caitlin O'Neill reach base after getting hit by a pitch to give IW a runner on base.  Kassie Vazquez singled, and Jena Miller was hit by a pitch in the next at bat.  Bases were loaded for Sydnee Stalker (SO/Ottawa, IL), and she drove in the game winning run with a single.

Samantha McIlwain pitched 5.1 innings and Julie Dodd finished the game out. McIlwain had four strikeouts. Dodd earned the win and moved to 3-6 on the season.

In the second game of the day, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Iowa Wesleyan took advantage of four walks by the RMU-Springfield pitcher.  Julie Dodd drove in the first run with a fielder's choice, and Sheridan Gealow (JR/Huxley, IA) drove in three runs with a double to center field.

After a scoreless second inning, IW added a run in the bottom of the third to go up 5-0. Zoie Carney (JR/Roscoe, IL) singled to drive in Sydnee Stalker for the Tigers only run of the inning.  Iowa Wesleyan added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Robert Morris-Springfield scored two runs off of a homerun in the top of the seventh, but the Tigers were able to get out of the inning to secure their second win of the day.  Julie Dodd picked up her second win and improving her record to 4-6 overall.

Iowa Wesleyan's next games will be Wednesday, April 12.  They host Greenville College at 3 pm in a SLIAC double header.
